This web site is dedicated to genealogical research of the Holmes family.  It commences with William Addames who was born in Bickleigh, Devon about 1558.  For reasons unknown, the family was using that alias at the time but it is conceivable that the family name was Addames with Holmes used as an alias.  There were at least two other Holmes families living in Devon during the 18th century.  Contact with the Holmes Family History Society reveals considerable search activity in Northern England yet none in Devon.
